My Freshman Year and Ethnography 1
These two readings seemed to have many similarities and differences. The Ethnography book explained what the woman in My Freshman Year's job was and how she performed the task of studying behaviors and experiences of college students. I don't think going to college was the best way to study those things because she wouldn't be treated the same way as real freshman college students. The age difference made her less included in the norm college experience that everyone else would be going through. I think surveying students was a good way to find out the similarities and differences among freshman college students, though I don't think anyone would be honest with her about drinking because she's so much older and it would make people less comfortable to be true to her. Also, the way she observed students interactions and daily schedules was a good way to study college experiences. I found the Ethnography book hard to understand and stay interested in. The way they came about explaining what it is was confusing and didn't help me much in understanding the job description and characteristics. Though they both were kind of confusing, I found them interesting in some ways, especially the first reading in how she adapted to being a freshman to attempt at getting the normal college experience.
